Artist: Jennifer Andrews Title : Even the Desert Bears a Seed Media: Acrylic and Mixed Media on canvas About the painting:- I am fascinated by symbolism and also by the power of image and colour to communicate. I like to explore traditional Christian symbols and themes within in an Australian context. When I visited Gayndah in the middle of a severe drought, a lone bottle tree clinging to life on the side of a very windswept and barren hill ( I think the only hill in Gayndah! ) caught my attention. It was as if despite the seeming hopelessness of the situation, this tree was determined to survive. I used this as inspiration for a series of stained glass window designs for the Anglican church in Gayndah and for a series of paintings. |
